Duolingo rules at Duquesne

The admissions page says graduate scores current to within one year are considered reliable, and the graduate catalog asks for official score reports current to within one year. Undergraduates with an accepted score are placed directly into coursework with no testing on arrival.

For assistantships, the admissions page says graduate assistantships need greater proficiency than the general minimums plus certification of fluency. The catalog says teaching assistants whose first language is not English take extra language tests; only TOEFL and IELTS speaking scores are named as excusing them from the SPEAK test.

For comparison, the admissions page sets IELTS at 6.0 for undergraduate full-time study and 6.5 for graduate admission, with IELTS 7.0 for Palumbo-Donahue.

If your Duolingo score is below Duquesne's level

Undergraduates without an approved score are tested on campus with Accuplacer and a writing sample, and may be placed into part-time study with English support or the Gateway ESL programme; ESL courses cost extra. Graduate applicants below the programme minimum may be considered for the Pathway Program, which allows up to twelve months of Global English Institute and academic study before full admission.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Duquesne programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
