Other tests and exemptions
Hartpury also lists LanguageCert SELT (60–74, CEFR B2, for degree and postgraduate courses), Oxford ELLT at the same levels as IELTS, and Trinity's in-person Student Visa test (from ISE II at B2 up to ISE III at C1). The TOEFL Home Edition is not accepted, and Duolingo is not listed.
You may not need a test if you are from a UKVI majority English-speaking country, hold GCSE or Scottish National Qualification English at level 4 or 5, hold the IB Diploma with English at Standard 4 or above, or completed a bachelor's at a university in the UK or a majority English-speaking country. Hartpury may also ask you to attend an online CAS Approval Interview.

Pre-sessional and the visa
If your English needs work, Hartpury partners with the Oxford International Digital Institute on an online pre-sessional English course over 6, 12 or 16 weeks, matched to your current level.
For a Student visa, UK Visas and Immigration asks for English at CEFR B2 for degree-level study and B1 below degree level, per gov.uk. At degree level, gov.uk adds, your university can assess your English itself and may ask you to take a different test.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Hartpury programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Hartpury University publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
