Test rules and comparison with IELTS
The undergraduate page says scores can be self-submitted but must be issued by the testing body. Neither page states a validity period or mentions PTE Academic Online. The graduate page also accepts some alternative exams, including IELTS Indicator, from applicants unable to meet the main criteria.
For comparison, both pages ask IELTS 6.5 against PTE 53.

If your PTE score falls short
The graduate page points applicants who do not meet the criteria to pathway programme admission through INTO Hofstra. It also exempts holders of a bachelor's or graduate degree from an institution whose language of instruction is English, and accepts the ELS 112 certificate.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Hofstra programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
