IELTS fees in Egypt by provider
Figures come from IDP Egypt's fee table and its live Cairo sessions, and from the British Council's booking page and UKVI page. The British Council says that from 1 July 2026 all IELTS tests are delivered on computer; the handwriting option left is IELTS on computer with Writing on Paper, where Listening and Reading are on screen.
If you want to write by hand, the British Council is EGP 1,020 cheaper than IDP. For a fully on-screen test the price is the same.
| Test | IDP | British Council |
|---|---|---|
| IELTS Academic or General Training on computer | EGP 10,200 | EGP 10,200 |
| IELTS on computer with Writing on Paper | EGP 11,220 | EGP 10,200 |

Transfer, cancellation and refund rules
IDP Egypt's rules for standard IELTS (reschedule and cancel page): a transfer is free 15 or more days before your Listening, Reading and Writing date, costs up to 25% of the fee within 5 to 14 days, and is not possible within 4 days. Cancel 15 or more days ahead and you get 75% back; within 14 days the fee is not refunded.
IELTS for UKVI and Life Skills follow the UKVI policy: 75% back more than 14 days before, 50% within 14 days but more than two days before, 25% within two days, and nothing on or after test day. The British Council Egypt pages we read do not publish a separate standard refund policy, so check the terms in its Test Taker Portal. IDP refunds a One Skill Retake in full if you cancel 72 hours or more before the session, with no administration fee, and nothing if you do not turn up. If a serious medical condition stops you sitting the main test, IDP says you can send a medical certificate within 5 days of the test date for a refund minus the local administrative cost. Special consideration for illness or bereavement can be requested before the test or up to two calendar days after it.

The British Council accepts a passport, or a national ID card for Egyptian nationals. You upload a copy during registration (or later, but before test day) and must show the same document on the day; an expired or different document means you cannot sit the test. Under-18s need written consent from a parent or guardian.
You can pay the British Council online, at one of its offices, or by bank transfer for registrations at remote venues; for a transfer, put [IELTS reference number / first name and family name / venue / test date] in the reference and email proof of payment. The British Council notes the fee does not include any charges your bank adds. It also names five authorised registration centres that can book for you, including Ain Shams University's Faculty of Al-Alsun and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (authorised registration centres).
PTE Academic costs EGP 8,600 in Egypt (PTE fee in Egypt). Whichever you choose, take a free full IELTS mock test first, and if one skill lets you down, compare One Skill Retake with a full resit (One Skill Retake guide).
