Transfer, cancellation and refund rules
British Council, standard IELTS (policy): cancel 15 or more days ahead and get 75% back; within 14 days there is no refund, even if you booked the wrong date, test type or ID, or booked within the last 14 days. Transfers are free 15 or more days out, cost 25% of the fee within 5 to 14 days, and are refused under 5 days; the transfer fee is never refunded. Refunds take four to six weeks. For UKVI tests the British Council refunds 75% more than 14 days out, 50% from 14 to 3 days, 25% within two days and nothing on the day (UKVI policy).
IDP Hong Kong's rule is much stricter (IDP): you get your fee back minus a 25% admin fee only if you cancel or postpone more than five weeks before the test. Inside five weeks there is no refund unless you have a serious medical condition and send a doctor's certificate within five days of the test. See our IELTS cancel, reschedule and refund guide.

How to pay and book IELTS in Hong Kong
The British Council takes credit cards, Alipay China and WeChat Pay China online (British Council), and transfer fees can be paid the same ways. IDP books online or at its office: you upload a clear colour scan of your passport and pay by credit card (IDP).
Because a full test costs HK$2,900 and IDP keeps the whole fee inside five weeks, choose your date carefully and practise free before you pay the fee.
