Exam fees and test centres by country

How much is the IELTS exam fee in Iran, and can you still book it?

On 10 October 2026 no IELTS session could be booked in Iran. IDP still lists eight centres, but its Tehran, Shiraz, Isfahan and Mashhad pages showed no dates, and IELTS Tehran says testing in Iran has stopped. IRSAFAM still displays IRR 451,825,000 for IELTS and for IELTS for UKVI. The IDP-listed centres now point candidates to Armenia, Turkey and Qatar.

Is IELTS available in Iran right now?

Not in practice. IDP's Iran test centre finder lists eight centres, run by IRSAFAM, IELTS Tehran and ADD, and carries a notice about limited testing spaces. On 10 October 2026, though, its Tehran, Shiraz, Isfahan and Mashhad pages returned no test sessions, and IRSAFAM's own test timetable listed none. The ielts.org centre finder showed no Iranian centres at all.

IELTS Tehran, an IDP-listed centre, says on its IELTS dates page that IELTS testing in Iran has stopped and that it now registers Iranian candidates for IDP centres in Yerevan and Istanbul. The British Council does not run IELTS in Iran. If you need a score soon, plan to test abroad.

IELTS fees for Iranian candidates

IRSAFAM's home page still shows the fees below. Under a directive from Sanjesh, Iran's national testing organisation, IRSAFAM says the IELTS fee floats with the open-market exchange rate and is updated every Monday (price notice), so treat these as the last published figures, not a quote. Abroad you pay that country's fee: AMD 112,100 at IDP in Yerevan, and 12,000 TL (British Council) or 12,210 TL (IDP) in Turkey.

Refund rules and testing abroad

If you hold an IRSAFAM booking, its transfer and refund rules apply: transfers and cancellations are possible only up to 22 days before the written test, both cost 25% of the fee, and refunds go to an Iranian bank account (Sheba number). IRSAFAM takes payment through an Iranian bank gateway and registers candidates with a passport valid on test day (registration guide).

To test abroad you need a valid passport; IELTS Tehran asks for at least 7 months' validity for Armenia and Turkey, and says it refunds the same rial amount paid if you cancel. IRSAFAM arranges IELTS in Doha, where it says Qatar issues visas on arrival to Iranian candidates (IRSAFAM Qatar). In Turkey the British Council accepts only a passport from foreign candidates; see IELTS exam fee in Turkey.
