IELTS fees in Japan by test centre

Japan is unusual: three organisations run IELTS, and their prices differ. The Eiken Foundation of Japan books through the British Council's registration system and runs most British Council-network centres; its fees page says the ¥29,700 fee applies to applications from 1 September 2026. Berkeley House runs Eiken's Ichigaya (Tokyo) and Nagoya centres at ¥27,500 (Berkeley House). Since February 2026 IDP's IELTS in Japan has been run by its partner, the Japan Study Abroad Foundation (JSAF), at ¥27,500 (JSAF, IDP Tokyo sessions).

All prices include consumption tax. Eiken's paper test ended in August 2026 and JSAF's on 29 August 2026 (JSAF), so IELTS in Japan is now computer only. IELTS for UKVI and Life Skills are listed only by Eiken (Eiken UKVI).

How to pay and book IELTS in Japan

Eiken takes credit cards only (Visa, Mastercard, Diners Club, JCB, Discover, American Express) and closes bookings at 9:00 three days before the test (Eiken). JSAF takes a credit card, or cash at 7-Eleven, Seicomart, Daily Yamazaki, FamilyMart, Ministop and Lawson; card bookings close three days before the test and convenience-store bookings six days before, and an unpaid booking is cancelled automatically (JSAF).

Every centre requires a passport, valid on test day, to book and to sit the test. At Eiken you must be at least 11 on test day, and a parent must apply for anyone under 18. With fees near ¥30,000, practise free before you pay the fee.
