IELTS fees in Malaysia by provider
Figures come from IDP's test fee page and live Kuala Lumpur sessions (MYR 960 and MYR 1,065), and from the British Council's dates, fees and locations page. Both providers deliver IELTS on computer; IDP says all 20 of its venues offer IELTS on Computer.
The British Council notes that a 6% Sales and Services Tax (SST) applies to non-Malaysian test takers under the education scope. We did not find a matching notice on IDP's fee page, so international students should confirm the final amount at checkout. IDP's IELTS Online page says booking is open in Malaysia, but it does not publish a fee.
| Test or service | IDP | British Council |

Transfer, cancellation and refund rules
IDP Malaysia uses a five-week rule (IDP): with five weeks' notice or more, a cancellation or transfer costs RM 233 for IELTS (RM 259 for UKVI, RM 220 for Life Skills); with less than five weeks' notice the whole fee is forfeited. That makes an IDP booking much less flexible close to the date.
The British Council follows the standard rules (policy): 75% back 15 or more days before the test, nothing within 14 days; transfers are free 15 or more days out, cost 25% between 5 and 14 days, and are refused under 5 days. Refunds can take 4 to 6 weeks. See our IELTS cancel, reschedule and refund guide.
| Notice before the test | IDP | British Council |
|---|---|---|
| Five weeks or more | Cancel or transfer: RM 233 fee | Transfer free; cancel 75% back |
| 15 days to five weeks | Full fee forfeited | Transfer free; cancel 75% back |
| 5 to 14 days | Full fee forfeited | Transfer 25% fee; no refund |
| Under 5 days | Full fee forfeited | No transfer; no refund |
