IELTS test cities in Malaysia by provider
City lists come from IDP's Malaysia test centre finder and the British Council's dates, fees and locations page. Many venues are colleges, universities or international schools. We do not list addresses because venues move; check the exact venue before you book, or use the ielts.org test centre finder.

How to choose a centre
Both providers charge RM 960 at every venue, so choose on date and distance. Kuala Lumpur has the most sessions: IDP's Kuala Lumpur page showed 408 upcoming sessions on 10 October 2026, Penang 210 and Kuching 48 (IDP Kuala Lumpur). Every IDP session we saw was marked One Skill Retake available.
For IELTS for UKVI, the British Council offers it only in Kuala Lumpur (British Council); IDP's finder also showed UKVI sessions in Penang and Kuching. Choose your provider with the refund rules in mind: IDP forfeits the whole fee with less than five weeks' notice, while the British Council allows free transfers up to 15 days before.

Is there an IELTS centre in Sabah?+
Yes. Both providers test in Kota Kinabalu, and IDP also has a venue in Tawau.
Can I take IELTS at home in Malaysia?+
IDP says IELTS Online is open for booking in Malaysia for IELTS Academic. It is not accepted for migration.
