Transfer, cancellation and refund rules
IDP Taiwan's rules for IELTS Academic and General Training are stricter than most: a date or venue change is free 35 or more days before the test and costs 20% of the original fee from 7 to 34 days. From 6 days before, a change is possible only for illness, a serious accident, military service or a funeral, with evidence and the 20% fee. Cancelling 35 or more days ahead refunds 80%; after that only those serious reasons qualify, at 80%.
IDP's UKVI and Life Skills rules: free change and 75% refund 14 or more days ahead, then cancellation only, at 50% from 3 to 14 days, 25% one or two days before, and nothing on the day. IDP takes requests only through its online forms, within 5 days after the test at the latest. The British Council's policy for IELTS Academic and General Training: a transfer is free 15 or more days before the test, costs 25% of the fee within 5 to 14 days, and is not allowed under 5 days. Cancelling 15 or more days ahead returns 75%; within 14 days nothing comes back. Illness or an emergency can be claimed as exceptional circumstances up to two calendar days after the test, with evidence, and refunds take 4 to 6 weeks.

How to pay and book
The British Council takes a credit card, ibon or convenience-store payment in its online registration system (British Council). IDP Taiwan books online and accepts only a valid passport: you must upload a clear scan when booking, enter your name in capitals as on the passport, and bring the original on test day, or you lose the test with no change or refund.
Each attempt costs TWD 9,000, so practise free before you pay, and compare it with the PTE fee in Taiwan.
