IELTS fees in Uganda

Figures come from the British Council's Uganda dates and fees page, its UKVI page and its booking system, which showed the same prices for every Kampala session. The British Council is the only IELTS provider in Uganda; IDP has no Ugandan test centre.

The British Council also offers IELTS on computer with Writing on paper (not for UKVI) and IELTS Online at home (test formats), but it did not publish separate prices for either. IELTS Online is Academic only, takes 6 to 8 days for results and is not accepted for visas.

The autumn discount code

On 13 October 2026 the British Council's Uganda page said that IELTS on computer, or IELTS with Writing on Paper, costs only UGX 1,048,000 with code UGB2C1011 entered at checkout, valid for October and November 2026 test dates and bookings made by 30 November 2026 (British Council). That saves UGX 349,000. The page does not say the code covers IELTS for UKVI or Life Skills, so assume it does not.

How to pay and what ID you need

The online booking offers card or mobile money payment. You can also pay cash at any Stanbic Bank branch using the British Council virtual account deposit slip, writing your IELTS reference number on it; bank payments are confirmed within two working days, online payments instantly (British Council).

Ugandans can book and sit the test with a passport or national ID; non-Ugandans need a valid passport. Student IDs, voter IDs and driving licences are not accepted, and under-18s need written consent from a parent or guardian. Bring the original document on test day or you cannot sit the test.

Transfer, cancellation and refund rules

Standard IELTS follows the British Council's Uganda cancellation policy; cancel or transfer in the Test Taker Portal. Illness, bereavement and other exceptional circumstances can be raised with the test centre before the test or up to two calendar days after it, never after results are out; refunds can take 4 to 6 weeks.

IELTS for UKVI and Life Skills follow a separate policy: cancel more than 14 days ahead and you get 75% back, within 14 days but more than two days ahead 50%, within two days 25%, and nothing on or after test day. A UKVI booking can be transferred once, more than 14 days ahead, to a date within three months, and the centre may charge up to 25%. (British Council UKVI policy). For a UK Skilled Worker or Health and Care Worker visa, the British Council lists the requirement as CEFR B2: at least 5.5 in each of the four parts of IELTS for UKVI. B1 still applies to people already on those routes before 8 January 2026 who are only extending. See IELTS for the UK Skilled Worker visa. Nurses and midwives heading for the UK should book IELTS Academic at a test centre. The Nursing and Midwifery Council says it does not accept IELTS Online or One Skill Retake, because all four skills must be tested in one sitting (NMC). Our IELTS for nurses in the UK guide has the scores.
