IELTS fees in Vietnam by provider
Figures come from IDP's fees page and live Hanoi sessions, and from the British Council's booking page and UKVI page. IDP states that its prices include 8% VAT for the period 1 July 2023 to 31 December 2026, and that the rate may change if the government changes it.
The British Council says all IELTS tests in Vietnam have been on computer since 29 March 2025, with paper kept only for special arrangements and a few partner schools (British Council). IELTS for UKVI on paper ended after 29 September 2024. IDP's Hanoi sessions showed IELTS on computer, some with Writing on paper, at the same price.

Transfer, cancellation and refund rules
IDP lets you change the date once, free 15 days or more ahead or for VND 1,100,000 between 4 and 14 days, to a date within three months; within 3 days no change is allowed, and after a transfer you cannot cancel. Cancelling 15 days or more ahead returns 75% within six weeks, and IDP refunds nothing without the original VAT invoice (IDP policy). IDP's UKVI rules differ: transfers cost VND 1,100,000, then 50% or 75% of the fee, and refunds run 75%, 50% or 25%.
The British Council refunds 75% 15 or more days ahead and nothing within 14 days; transfers are free 15 or more days out, cost 25% between 5 and 14 days, and are refused under 5 days. Its refunds can take 21 days (British Council policy). See our IELTS cancel, reschedule and refund guide.

IDP takes Visa, Mastercard or JCB online, domestic ATM cards and bank-app QR payments, cash or card at IDP offices, and bank transfer to its HSBC accounts for Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, quoting your name, phone, test date and ID number (IDP).
The British Council takes Visa or Mastercard, local ATM cards and bank-app QR codes online, or bank transfer and card payment at its exam offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. It holds a booking for 72 hours but asks you to pay within 24 (British Council). Before you spend VND 4,664,000, practise free before you pay the fee.
