College of Midwives of Ontario scores
From the College's Language Proficiency Policy (approved April 2023; the appendix says it was updated April 2023 for review in April 2024). This guide covers Ontario; other provinces license midwives under their own rules.

Combining sittings and other tests
Each of the four domains must reach its minimum, and scores must be achieved in the 24 months before you apply. Scores can be combined from more than one sitting only if they are from the same test, taken at least 30 days apart.
Besides IELTS Academic, the College accepts any test approved under Canada's Immigration and Refugee Protection Act at the time you apply. PTE, OET and TOEFL are not in its score appendix, so confirm a minimum with the College before booking one.

When you do not need a test
Applicants for the General and Supervised Practice classes meet the requirement without a test if they graduated from a recognised midwifery programme taught in English or French anywhere in Canada, or are registered as a midwife in another Canadian jurisdiction. Regulators change these rules, sometimes at short notice. Confirm the current scores on the College page before you book a test.
