What IELTS score do teachers need in Canada?

Ontario requires the scores on a single test and says results are valid for two years. The test provider must send results directly to the College; it will not accept them from you, even sealed. Alberta asks for a current score report, within two years, sent directly by the issuing institution.

Whether IELTS One Skill Retake is accepted is not stated by the Ontario College of Teachers or Alberta Education. Alberta does not state an overall IELTS band.

Ontario: you meet the English requirement if you completed an English-language teacher education programme in a listed country, including Australia, Canada, Ghana, Jamaica, New Zealand, Nigeria, the Republic of Ireland, Uganda, the UK, the US, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Elsewhere, an institution letter can confirm your teacher education, one year of postsecondary study, or all elementary and secondary schooling was entirely in English. Teachers certified in another province after a language assessment also qualify.

Alberta may consider letters confirming post-secondary or secondary education in English, a Canadian postgraduate degree in English, at least one year of Canadian teaching in English within the last five years, or a letter from an Alberta school authority. Other provinces set their own rules, which we have not verified here. Regulators change these rules, sometimes at short notice.
