Validity

You must meet the English requirement when you apply. A pass is valid for two years, but can be extended to up to five years if you have lived and worked continuously in a country where English is the first and prime language for at least four of the previous five years.

Results must be sent directly from the test body to the Council. Whether IELTS One Skill Retake counts is not stated in the policy.

When you do not need a test

You are normally treated as meeting the requirement if English is your first language; or you hold a Council-recognised veterinary degree or specialist qualification gained in a country where English is the first and prime language, taught and assessed only in English, and have worked or studied in such a country for at least four of the past five years; or you passed ECFVG or PAVE in English with the same four-in-five-years condition. Regulators change these rules, sometimes at short notice. Confirm the current scores on the Veterinary Council page before you book a test.
