Graduate: IELTS 6.5 or an Indian-degree route
All international graduate students must demonstrate English proficiency in one of four ways: an official score from TOEFL iBT, IELTS or Duolingo at the levels above; completion of ELS Level 112 or NCUK English for Academic Purposes; 60 semester hours at US institutions within the last 36 months; or a degree from a listed country (including Australia, Canada except Quebec, Ghana, Nigeria and the UK) after at least two years at that school. Scores are valid for two years from the test date.
Illinois Tech states that applicants may be considered to meet the requirement with a degree from a NAAC 'A' accredited institution in India and at least 60% in the undergraduate English course. If your degree had first or second language courses other than English, an official Medium of Instruction letter from the Registrar may be submitted instead. See graduate English requirements.

Applicants who meet academic and financial requirements but fall short on English may be offered conditional admission, either taking English courses alongside their degree courses or first completing an intensive English program. Illinois Tech may also require extra English courses if other evidence suggests you need them.
Undergraduates need TOEFL iBT 80, IELTS 6.5 or Duolingo 115; TOEFL MyBest scores are not accepted. Waivers include SAT EBRW 550, ACT English 25, and India Standard XII English with at least a B average (60%+) from CBSE, CISCE or a state board. See undergraduate English requirements.
Student visa and next steps
The US F-1 student visa sets no English test score of its own. What counts is the requirement Illinois Tech sets for admission, which leads to your Form I-20. For the wider picture of studying in the US with each test, see IELTS for the USA and PTE for the USA.
Requirements change between admission cycles. Check the Illinois Tech graduate English requirements page again before you book a test, and check your own program page, which can set a higher bar.
