What IELTS score do you need for IMT Atlantique?

IMT Atlantique asks MSc applicants to an English-taught programme for an official proof of English, with a required IELTS score of 6.0, TOEFL iBT 80 or TOEIC 750. There is no prerequisite in French. The FAQ gives these figures as a single rule for English-taught MSc applicants and does not break them down by programme.Source: IMT Atlantique official English requirements · checked 4 November 2026

What the FAQ does not say

The FAQ does not state a waiver for degrees taught in English or for particular countries, does not say how long a result stays valid, and does not mention PTE or Duolingo. Ask the admissions contact it names if you hold only one of those, or if you rely on an English-medium degree.

The FAQ also covers programmes not listed on it and says answers may differ for you, with a contact address for those cases.

MSc programmes, French and checking your offer

IMT Atlantique lists its English-taught Masters of Science alongside its engineering diploma, an Erasmus Mundus route and a cybersecurity post-master degree. The FAQ says French classes, about 3 hours a week, are part of the MSc curriculum, and the school runs a French Summer School.

Admission can be deferred only if the programme allows it and never beyond one year. Once admitted, non-European students apply for the visa through the Etudes en France platform.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your IMT Atlantique programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.

Minimum vs competitive score

Where IMT Atlantique publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.

Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.

If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
