What IELTS score do you need for Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU)?

For International Economics and Public Policy, results should not be older than three years at the application deadline. You may apply before taking the test but must submit the result by the end of your first semester, or admission is rescinded. The test applies only if your bachelor's degree was not entirely taught in English.

The Human Geography page says the test may not be more than three years old at the application deadline and allows conditional admission pending the certificate. The European Studies and Quantitative Decision Making pages instead let you prove B2 with an English-language entrance qualification or degree. The Turkic Studies page names no waiver.

The Quantitative Decision Making page describes a two-year, full-time, English-language M.Sc. starting in winter semester, with an application period of 1 April to 15 May and a semester fee of €366.90 for winter 2026/27. The Management page says students need English to read academic literature and join English-taught courses, but not to write coursework or exams in English.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Mainz programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
