PTE home edition, validity and IELTS

The graduate application page says valid scores are TOEFL, PTE and IELTS (academic and home edition), and that K-State does not accept Duolingo, TOEFL ITP or PTE home edition. PTE Core is not mentioned. The graduate handbook says the test date should be no older than 18 months from the application deadline.

For undergraduates, the English proficiency page says scores cannot be more than two years old. For comparison, the graduate page asks IELTS 6.5 against PTE 58, and the undergraduate page lists IELTS 6.5 against PTE 53.

Graduate teaching assistants must meet separate speaking requirements, according to the graduate pages; check those before relying on a PTE score.

If your PTE score falls short

Graduate applicants can enter the Graduate Pathway Program with provisional admission on the PTE part scores in the table; the handbook says students below those criteria are directed to the full-time Intensive English Program. Undergraduates can be admitted without proof of English and are placed into Basic, Intermediate or Advanced English Language Program courses, per the undergraduate page.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your K-State programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
