Tests EMGS accepts for the Student Pass
EMGS's required-documents page says proficiency in English is a prerequisite for admission and that you must upload an English certificate with your Visa Approval Letter (VAL) application (EMGS required documents). The page lists the accepted tests but no minimum scores; your university's offer sets the score.
| Accepted test | Online version listed? |
|---|---|
| MUET (Malaysian University English Test) | - |
| IELTS | Yes, IELTS Online |
| TOEFL iBT | TOEFL Essentials (Online) also listed |
| PTE Academic | Yes, PTE Academic (Online) |
| Cambridge English: B1 Preliminary, B2 First, C1 Advanced, C2 Proficiency | - |
| Cambridge English Linguaskill | Linguaskill Online |
| Occupational English Test (OET) | Conventional or online |
| ELS Certified Intensive English Programme level | - |
What happens if you leave it out
EMGS warns that if you do not attach an English certificate when creating your VAL application, processing may be delayed and you will not be eligible for a student pass covering the full duration of your course.
The VAL is the electronic approval issued before you enter Malaysia; it is valid for six months, and the client charter is 14 working days for a complete application (EMGS FAQ).

Your university's score still applies
EMGS says most courses in Malaysia are taught in English and that some courses have additional entry requirements set by your institution (EMGS required documents). The university that issues your offer letter decides the IELTS or PTE score; EMGS checks that a recognised certificate is attached. Requirements change between intakes and scholarship rounds. Confirm the current rule on the EMGS required-documents page before you book a test or apply. This guide is general information, not admissions advice.
