Validity, the Engineering English Test and waivers
Undergraduate: the test must be taken within two years before you apply and be verifiable with the testing provider; final results are uploaded to the admissions portal. Engineering applicants who prove English with a test must also pass the e-proctored Engineering English Test (EET), which affects only admission to the Bachelor of Engineering, not general admission.
Graduate: you need no test if you completed secondary school, an undergraduate degree or a graduate degree at a recognized institution taught in English; outside Canada and the US, upload a medium of instruction letter. Programs with higher scores say so on their own pages. A graduate validity period, and a position on IELTS One Skill Retake or IELTS Online, are not stated by Memorial.

Undergraduates below the minimums may be considered for early acceptance if they enrol in Memorial's Intensive English Program or Intensive English Bridge Program at Grenfell Campus. Graduate applicants can be considered for conditional admission pending the Intensive English Program, selected in the application's English proficiency drop-down.
Study permit and PGWP: separate rules
Memorial's scores decide admission only. IRCC sets no minimum English score for a study permit; any language condition is written into your letter of acceptance (see IELTS for a Canada study permit). The Post-Graduation Work Permit is a separate test again. IRCC's PGWP eligibility page asks for CLB 7 in all four skills if you graduate with a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree, and CLB 7 too if you graduate from "any other university program", which must also be in an eligible field of study if you applied for your study permit on or after 1 November 2024. The lower CLB 5 applies only to college, polytechnic and other non-university programs. On IELTS General Training, CLB 7 is 6.0 in each skill (IRCC score table). The PGWP takes IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General or PTE Core, not IELTS Academic (see IELTS for the PGWP).
