Entrance exam, interview and timing

PUMS lists an entrance examination in natural sciences and an interview as a general requirement. The page lists a PLN 85 application processing fee and a PLN 600 fee for the exam and interview.

The English proof is submitted after a successful entrance exam, so you do not need the certificate on day one. You do need it before the process closes, and an IELTS result takes days to issue, so sit the test well before the interview stage. The page lists no exemptions from the English requirement.

Plan the test around a higher bar

At 6.5 for IELTS, PUMS sits above the B2-level minimums that several other Polish medical universities use. If your practice score is nearer 6.0, work on your weakest skill first, since the page states only the overall score and no band minimums.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your PUMS programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.

Minimum vs competitive score

Where Poznan University of Medical Sciences publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.

Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.

If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
