Pearson's scoring shares tasks across skills. Write from Dictation contributes to listening and writing and is the single largest writing contributor. Summarize Written Text contributes to reading and writing. Summarize Spoken Text contributes to listening and writing. Write Essay contributes to writing only. The pattern in most 60-point score reports: essay content is fine, but spelling and grammar traits are low because of dictation and summary errors.

Write from Dictation: every word, every function word

Each correct word in the right sequence scores; a missed article or a wrong plural costs a mark. Train by typing the sentence as you hear it, then replaying to fill gaps, and by checking spelling of the high-frequency academic words that recur (environment, government, significant). Fifteen items a day for two weeks typically moves writing by three to five points on its own.

Summaries: one sentence, five to 75 words, no errors

Summarize Written Text must be one sentence of five to 75 words. Two sentences score zero for form. The safe template is a main-clause subject and verb, joined to the supporting points with which, while and because; keep it under 40 words so there is less to get wrong. Summarize Spoken Text is 50 to 70 words in one paragraph: three or four points from the lecture, no personal opinion, spelling checked.

Two-week plan

Week 1: 15 Write from Dictation and five Summarize Written Text a day, all scored, with a spelling list of every word missed. Week 2: add two Summarize Spoken Text a day and two essays a week under 20 minutes, structured as position, two reasons, conclusion. Take a scored mock at the end; writing 68 to 72 is the usual landing for a candidate who started at 60 with clean essays.
