What Duolingo score do you need for Rice University?

For undergraduate entry, Rice treats scores as official only when they are sent directly from the testing organisation, and it wants results from one individual exam administration. The graduate page notes that certified Duolingo results are available within 48 hours of the test session, asks you to allow two weeks for scores to be reported, and says Rice may have a limited number of DET discount codes on request.

Neither page sets out a Duolingo subscore requirement or a separate DET validity period.

For comparison, the same undergraduate page asks for IELTS 7.0 (Academic module) next to the DET 130, and the graduate page asks for IELTS 7 next to the DET 115.

Undergraduates whose first language is not English can show proficiency instead by completing at least two years of full-time study in an English language curriculum before applying. Graduate applicants can submit proof of a completed or expected post-secondary degree from an institution where English is the official language of instruction. Neither page describes conditional admission or a pathway programme.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Rice programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
