RMIT score bands for undergraduate and postgraduate study
From the RMIT English language proficiency tests page. Your course page tells you which band applies. TOEFL section scores are reading / listening / speaking / writing. The same table gives Cambridge C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency scores (176 with 169 in each component at the IELTS 6.5 band).

Foundation Studies and associate degrees
Foundation Studies needs IELTS 5.5 (no band below 5.0), PTE Academic 42 (no communicative band below 36) or TOEFL iBT 50 (reading 5, listening 5, speaking 14, writing 15).
Associate degrees need IELTS 6.0 (no band below 5.5), PTE Academic 50 (no band below 42) or TOEFL iBT 60 (reading 10, listening 9, speaking 16, writing 19).

RMIT accepts IELTS Academic and IELTS Academic One Skill Retake, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, Cambridge B2 First, C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency, and OET for selected health and medical programs. TOEFL iBT tests taken on or after 21 January 2026 must be the TOEFL iBT Australia test.
At-home or online tests are not accepted, nor is IELTS General Training or TOEFL results on the 1–6 scale. Duolingo and LanguageCert are not on RMIT's list.
Your English test must have been completed within two years of your RMIT course start date.
Requirements vary by course, and RMIT can change them between intakes. Always confirm the score on your course page before you book a test. Your student visa has its own English rules, set by the Department of Home Affairs.

What PTE score does RMIT accept?+
Undergraduate and postgraduate courses start at PTE Academic 58 with no band below 50. Higher bands go up to 79.
Is IELTS One Skill Retake accepted at RMIT?+
Yes. RMIT lists IELTS (Academic) One Skill Retake among its accepted tests.
Does RMIT accept IELTS Online or TOEFL Home Edition?+
No. RMIT does not accept at-home or online tests.
Does RMIT accept the new TOEFL 1–6 scale?+
No. TOEFL results on the 1–6 scale are not accepted, and tests taken from 21 January 2026 must be TOEFL iBT Australia.
Does RMIT accept Duolingo?+
Duolingo is not among the tests RMIT lists.
