Test rules and how PTE compares with IELTS at RMIT Vietnam

The bachelor's and MBA pages both say RMIT does not accept scores from at-home or online testing, so take PTE Academic at a test centre. The MBA page says proficiency tests are recognised for two years from the test date to the program commencement date, and that where you hold more than one English result only the most relevant is considered. Neither page mentions PTE Core or a Pearson institution code.

On the same pages, PTE 58 (50) sits beside IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 79 with section minimums, and C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency 176. For Foundation Studies, PTE 42 (36) sits beside IELTS 5.5 with no band below 5.0.

If you fall short

Foundation Studies is the lower entry point at PTE 42, and both the degree and Foundation pages also accept completion of RMIT Vietnam's own English programmes (English Advanced for degrees, English Upper Intermediate for Foundation) instead of a test. The MBA page also accepts a bachelor's or postgraduate qualification completed within the past five years in a recognised English-speaking country.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your RMIT Vietnam programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
