Rutgers' Duolingo rules

Undergraduate score reports must come from tests taken within the past two years and be submitted directly by the testing service.

Graduate score reports must come from tests taken within two years of the start of the semester you apply for and be sent directly by the testing agency. Scores you submit yourself are treated as unofficial and may not be reviewed.

For comparison, the undergraduate page sets IELTS at 6.5 for New Brunswick and Newark and 6.0 for Camden, and the graduate page sets a minimum IELTS of 7 overall.

If your Duolingo score is below Rutgers' level

Undergraduates who attended an English-medium school can ask for a case-by-case waiver, and a B or better in a college-level English Composition course at an accredited US college counts as an exemption. Graduate applicants can be considered for a waiver if their whole degree was taught in English and this is documented on the transcript or in an official letter.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Rutgers programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
