Formats, validity and the C1 graduation rule
Sciences Po accepts only IELTS Academic, including IELTS Academic UKVI; IELTS Indicator and General Training are discarded. TOEFL MyBest Scores and IELTS One Skill Retake are accepted unless a programme says otherwise.
Tests are valid for two years. For the 2027 intake, tests must have been taken on or after 1 January 2025. Cambridge certificates have lifetime validity. Results must be attached to the online application before the programme's deadline, or the application is not considered.
Even where a programme sets no English score for admission, Sciences Po says you must prove C1 English by the end of your two years to obtain the master's degree.

Take a free scored IELTS mock →Exemptions
You are exempt if you studied at least two consecutive years in the same degree-granting university programme taught fully in English, with proof that English was the only medium of instruction. The page does not limit this by country, so an English-only degree from India or Pakistan can qualify with that proof.
A high school diploma with English as the language of instruction also counts: IB English A, European Baccalaureate English L1, GCE A-levels in at least three subjects, or a school certificate. Native language alone does not exempt you, and Sciences Po's own C1 or C2 certificates do not either.
Undergraduate admissions
For applicants from foreign secondary schools, English-taught campuses such as Le Havre (Asia-Pacific) and Menton's English track require English equivalent to C1, according to the undergraduate language page. Attaching a test is optional: the required documents list calls IELTS, TOEFL and Cambridge recommended but not mandatory, and the interview tests your level.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Sciences Po programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
