University English requirements

What PTE score do you need for Seattle University?

Seattle University asks for PTE 58 for general admission at both undergraduate and graduate level. Scores from 48 to 57 still lead to admission, but with English Language and Cultural Bridge (ELCB) classes. Nursing, Diagnostic Ultrasound and the 3+3 law programmes need the full level, and your most recent test counts even if an earlier score was higher.

Test rules and how to send your score

Neither page mentions PTE Academic Online or PTE Core, a PTE validity period or a PTE sending code. Both say the most recent demonstration of English proficiency counts, regardless of whether earlier scores were higher, so a retake can lower your result. The undergraduate page accepts TOEFL My Best Score and IELTS One Skill Retake but says nothing similar for PTE.

On the same pages, IELTS 6.5 matches PTE 58 and IELTS 6.0 matches the ELCB band.

If you fall short

Undergraduates in the ELCB range take diagnostic tests on the first day of classes, and some have the ELCB requirement waived on the results. Nursing, Diagnostic Ultrasound, Business and Law (3+3) and Criminal Justice with a law specialisation (3+3) need proficiency above the ELCB level. At graduate level, some programmes cannot fit ELCB into the curriculum, so admitted students would complete ELCB before starting.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Seattle University programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
