How UAB handles TOEFL scores
The Graduate School accepts only English scores from tests taken within two years of the date you submit your application, and TOEFL scores go to institution code 1856. Both the undergraduate and graduate pages state that UAB accepts TOEFL MyBest scores. TOEFL iBT score reports issued since January 2026 also carry a 1 to 6 band score; see how the new TOEFL score scale works.
For comparison, the undergraduate page asks for IELTS 6.0 overall with 5.5 in each section, and the graduate page asks for IELTS 6.5.

If your TOEFL score is below UAB's level
Neither page describes conditional admission. The Graduate School may waive the test for applicants with a US bachelor's, graduate or professional degree and a GPA of 3.00 or higher, or for citizens of listed countries.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your UAB programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
