What TOEFL score do you need for UMGC?

All TOEFL scores must be no more than two years old and must be sent directly from the testing agency. UMGC's TOEFL score recovery code is 5804.

TOEFL iBT score reports issued since January 2026 also carry a 1 to 6 band score alongside the 0 to 120 total; see our guide to the new TOEFL score scale. Where a page above gives only a 0 to 120 figure, that is the figure this guide reports.

For comparison, UMGC asks for IELTS 6 for undergraduates and 6.5 for graduate study, in both cases including the academic reading and writing modules.

Graduate applicants can instead show at least 12 credits of graduate coursework with a grade of B or higher at an approved degree-granting institution. Applicants with a bachelor's degree from an approved country automatically meet the graduate requirement.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your UMGC programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
