Birmingham PTE Academic minimums by subject group
Postgraduate rows are from the international postgraduate entry requirements; undergraduate groups are from the international undergraduate entry requirements, which assign each subject a group (for example Computer Science A, Law B, Medicine D).

Test rules and how PTE compares with IELTS at Birmingham
Both pages list PTE Academic or PTE Academic Online as accepted proof of English (for 2026 postgraduate entry and 2027 undergraduate entry). Certificates should be no more than two years old on the programme start date, and the postgraduate page says only your most recent test score can be used. Neither page gives a Pearson institution code.
On the postgraduate table, PTE 64 (59) sits beside IELTS 6.0 with no band below 5.5, PTE 67 (64) beside IELTS 6.5 (6.0), and PTE 76 (67) beside IELTS 7.0 (6.5). Undergraduate Group D's PTE 76 in every skill matches IELTS 7.0 in every band.

If your PTE score falls short
Birmingham offers pre-sessional English courses for applicants who do not yet have the required level. The postgraduate page also notes that some Business programmes ask higher grades than the table shows.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Birmingham programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
