Bristol PTE Academic scores by profile
Each of Bristol's English language profiles has its own page, and the course page tells you which profile applies. The figures below are the "Pearson PTE Academic (Test Centre)" rows on each profile page, for example Profile A, Profile B, Profile C and Profile E.
| Profile | PTE overall | Minimum per skill |
|---|---|---|
| Profile A | 78 | 71 in all skills |
| Profile B, undergraduate | 71 | 71 in writing, 67 in all other skills |
| Profile B, postgraduate | 71 | 67 in all skills |
| Profile C | 67 | 67 in all skills |
| Profile D | 67 | 71 in reading and writing, 64 in all other skills |
| Profile E | 67 | 64 in all skills |
| Profile F | 64 | 67 in listening and speaking, 64 in all other skills |
| Profile G | 67 | 71 in reading and listening, 64 in all other skills |
| Profile H (PTE Academic UKVI row) | 67 | 60 in all skills |
PTE Academic, PTE UKVI and the rules Bristol applies
Each profile page lists Pearson PTE Academic UKVI under "Accepted Secure English Language Tests (SELT)" and Pearson PTE Academic (Test Centre) under "English Language Proficiency Tests", with the same scores in both lists. Next to the test-centre version the pages say the online test was valid for 2023 entry only.
Tests are valid when taken no more than two years before the programme starts; for September starts the test date must be no earlier than 1 September two years before entry. Component scores must come from one sitting: Bristol says it cannot combine scores from more than one certificate.
For comparison, the same Profile A page asks IELTS 7.5 with 7.0 in all skills against PTE 78 with 71, and Profile E asks IELTS 6.5 with no score below 6.0 against PTE 67 with 64. Bristol's pages give no Pearson institution code.

If your PTE score falls short
Bristol's language requirements page says that if you have not reached the level you will get a target grade in your offer, and lists options including a University pre-sessional language course, resitting a test, or a qualifying course in your home country. Each profile page sets the pre-sessional pass marks that count instead of a test.
For a Student visa, gov.uk asks for English at CEFR B2 for study at degree level or above and B1 below degree level, and says a university can assess degree-level applicants' English itself and may ask for a different test (gov.uk).
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Bristol programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
