University English requirements

What PTE score do you need for the University of Delaware?

The University of Delaware asks undergraduates for PTE Academic 53 for direct admission; scores of 52 or below sit in the lower bands that lead to an English language pathway. Meeting the minimum does not guarantee direct admission. Delaware's Graduate College test score pages discuss TOEFL and IELTS and do not mention PTE, so graduate applicants should ask their programme.

Sending scores and the IELTS level

The undergraduate page gives Delaware's school code for test score submissions as 5811 and says the university may ask for more evidence or assign an English pathway after a holistic review. A footnote asks for official scores through the IELTS, TOEFL or Duolingo testing services and does not mention Pearson, so ask admissions how to send a PTE report. PTE Academic Online and PTE Core are not mentioned.

For comparison, the same table asks IELTS 6.5 for direct admission against PTE Academic 53, with IELTS 5.5 to 6.0 in the Academic Transitions Pathway band.

If your PTE score falls short

Delaware's table places scores below the direct admission level in its Academic Transitions Pathway or Intensive English (pre-pathway) columns. For PTE the table gives only 53 and 52 or below, so you will be placed after review rather than by a published PTE pathway range.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Delaware programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
