What IELTS score do you need for the University of Delaware?

All graduate programs accept the TOEFL iBT, the paper-based test and the TOEFL at Home exam. Each program decides whether to accept IELTS, IELTS Indicator or TOEFL Essentials; where it does, IELTS 6.5 with no speaking score below 6.0 matches TOEFL 79, and IELTS 7.0 matches the TOEFL 100 that many programs require. Teaching assistants need TOEFL 100 or the IELTS equivalent. UD does not accept Duolingo at graduate level. The ETS code is 5811. See graduate test scores.

Waivers are strict. A degree from a university in a listed English-primary country (such as Australia, Canada except Quebec, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Singapore or the UK) or from a regionally accredited US institution qualifies; India is not on the list, and other English programs do not count as proof. Graduate Pathways is a one-semester program for students conditionally admitted to participating programs (MBA, MS in International Business, MFA, MPH in Epidemiology, and MS in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology); finishing it removes the need for a TOEFL or IELTS score. Direct admission needs TOEFL iBT 79 (4 on the new scale), TOEFL Essentials 8, IELTS 6.5, Cambridge B2 First 171, Duolingo 110, PTE Academic 53, SAT English 550, ACT English 24 or IB English Language and Literature 6. Meeting the minimum does not guarantee direct admission, and students scoring TOEFL 79–89 are invited into the optional Accelerate-U Delaware first semester. The school code is 5811. Lower scores (IELTS 5.5–6.0, TOEFL 65–78, Duolingo 95–109, PTE 52 or below) place you in the Academic Transitions pathway at the English Language Institute, through conditional admission. It is open to any major except nursing, and a test score is not required to apply.
