What IELTS score do you need for the University of Hull?

Hull's online pre-sessional English ran 6 weeks (6 July to 14 August 2026) for £2,400 or 10 weeks (8 June to 14 August 2026) for £4,000. Undergraduates join the 6-week course at IELTS 5.5 with no two skills below 5.0, or the 10-week at 5.0 with no two below 4.5. Postgraduates need 6.0 (no two below 5.5) or 5.5 (no two below 5.0).

Hull's tuition fee deposits page asks most international students for £4,000 before a CAS, Indian students £6,000 from the September 2026 intake, students from Nepal, Nigeria and Sri Lanka £6,000, and students from Bangladesh, Ghana and Pakistan £10,000.

For a Student visa, UK Visas and Immigration asks for English at CEFR B2 for degree-level study and B1 below degree level, per gov.uk. At degree level, gov.uk adds, your university can assess your English itself and may ask you to take a different test.
