These are the typical scores on Liverpool's international English language tests page. Some courses differ: Dentistry, Medicine and Veterinary Science ask for more at undergraduate level, as do the master's in Investigative and Forensic Psychology and Research Methods in Psychology.

For undergraduate and master's entry, Liverpool also accepts Duolingo, TOEFL iBT (not the Home Edition), LanguageCert Academic and Cambridge English. On the English Language BA page, IELTS 6.5 (5.5) equals Duolingo 125 with speaking, reading and writing at 105 or more and listening at 100 or more. For TOEFL it equals 88 on the old scale or 4.5 from 21 January 2026.
IELTS certificates are valid for two years and must still be valid on the first day of your course. One Skill Retake, IELTS Online and IELTS for UKVI are not mentioned on the pages read. If you are short, a pre-sessional English course can get you there. On the English Language BA page, IELTS 6.0 (5.5) leads to a 6-week course, on campus or online.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Liverpool programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.

Does the University of Liverpool accept PTE?+
Yes. Pearson PTE Academic is accepted for undergraduate and master's entry. Course pages give the score, for example 61 with no component below 59 for IELTS 6.5 courses.
Does Liverpool accept IELTS One Skill Retake or IELTS Online?+
Liverpool's English language pages and the course pages read do not mention either.
Do I need IELTS for UKVI for Liverpool?+
Liverpool's English language pages do not say IELTS for UKVI is required for degree entry; they refer to the IELTS Academic test.
What IELTS do I need for a master's at Liverpool?+
