University English requirements

What PTE score do you need for the University of Louisville?

The University of Louisville asks for PTE Academic 55 overall with no sub-score lower than 53, at both undergraduate and graduate level. Scores must be official and come directly from the testing service. The Graduate School counts a score as expired if the test was taken more than two years before the application deadline, and it does not waive English on medium of instruction.

Test rules and how to send your score

Neither page mentions PTE Academic Online or PTE Core. The undergraduate page says scores must be official and come to the Admissions Office directly from the testing service; it lists institution codes for TOEFL, SAT and ACT but none for PTE. The Graduate School says score reports are valid for two years and are treated as expired if the test was taken more than two years before the application deadline.

On the same pages, undergraduates need IELTS 6.5 overall and graduate applicants need IELTS 6.5 with no sub-score lower than 5, so the PTE route is stricter on individual skills than the IELTS route at graduate level.

If you fall short

Neither page describes a conditional admission or pathway route with a PTE entry score. The Graduate School waives the test only for citizens of the English-speaking countries it lists, not for study in English elsewhere, and the undergraduate page lists AP and IB English results as alternatives.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your UofL programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
