How UMaine handles TOEFL scores

UMaine's institution code is 3916 for both undergraduate and graduate TOEFL scores. Undergraduate admissions accepts MyBest scores and evaluates them the same way it considers superscores for other tests. The Graduate School only accepts score reports sent directly from the testing agency, and its MBA has no exemptions or waivers unless you hold a US or Canadian (outside Quebec) bachelor's or master's.

For comparison, the undergraduate page sets IELTS at 6.5, and the Graduate School sets IELTS at 6.5 with 7 for teaching assistants.

If your TOEFL score is below UMaine's level

Neither page describes conditional admission. Undergraduates can also show proficiency with a school letter or transcript confirming English-medium teaching, SAT Reading and Writing of 550 or more, ACT English of 24 or more, or a completed CEFR B2 level. Graduate applicants with a degree from an English-speaking institution do not need a test.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your UMaine programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
