University English requirements

What PTE score do you need for UNH?

The University of New Hampshire asks for PTE 59 for both undergraduate and graduate applicants, alongside IELTS 6.5. The Graduate School requires official scores sent from the testing agency, and applicants below the minimum may apply as Bridge Master's students. UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law graduate programmes accept only TOEFL or IELTS.

Test rules and how to send your score

The Graduate School says you must have official test scores sent from the testing agency. None of the pages mentions PTE Academic Online, PTE Core or a PTE validity period. The law school's graduate programmes ask for a TOEFL or IELTS score taken within three years and say no other English tests are accepted.

On the same pages, IELTS 6.5 is the equivalent of PTE 59 at both levels.

If you fall short

The Graduate School test scores page says international applicants with below-minimum scores may apply as Bridge Master's students. Waivers can be requested for applicants whose first language is English, whose prior education was in English or who hold a US degree. Undergraduates scoring 500 or more on the SAT verbal section can request a waiver.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your UNH programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
