What PTE score do you need for the University of Otago?

The page says the test must have been taken no more than two years before the date you begin study at Otago. This may be extended to five years case by case if you can show continued immersion in an English-speaking environment, such as English-language work or further study. The page names IELTS Online as accepted but says nothing about PTE Academic Online, and gives no Pearson institution code.

Pearson's own PTE Core FAQ describes PTE Core as a general English test that is initially suitable only for work and migration routes to Canada, and says PTE Academic is the test accepted for university study.

For comparison, the same table sets IELTS Academic at 6.0 with no band below 5.5 for undergraduate study and 6.5 with no band below 6.0 for postgraduate study.

Section 7 of the page lists higher requirements that name IELTS or TOEFL only. The Bachelor of Social Work and MSCW (Applied) need IELTS 7.0 with no band below 7.0 or TOEFL iBT 95 with Writing 22, in one sitting. The LLM and law PhD need IELTS 7.5 (7.0 in each band) or TOEFL. Advanced-standing Dentistry and clinical dental postgraduate programmes need IELTS 7.0 in each band or TOEFL. Teaching follows the Teaching Council's rules. If you plan to use PTE for any of these, confirm with Otago first.

MBA applicants who do not meet the usual English requirements may be considered on their performance in the MBA test or interview.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Otago programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
