What TOEFL score do you need for the University of Rhode Island?

Graduate applicants must submit an official TOEFL report from a test taken within the past two years. URI's ETS institution code is 3919, and you do not need to specify a department. On the older scale, the Dean will decide whether you can be considered if you have an overall 80 or above but are two points below in one section or one point below in two.

For comparison, the undergraduate page sets IELTS at 6.5 (7.0 for Pharm.D.), and the graduate page asks for IELTS 6.5 with 6.5 in every section.

Neither page describes conditional admission. Graduate applicants are exempt from the language test if they are citizens of Australia, Canada, Great Britain, Guyana, Ireland, New Zealand, the US, an Anglophone African country or an English-speaking Caribbean country, or hold a degree from one of those countries. Undergraduates from English-medium schools may be exempt case by case, based on their English grades and any SAT or ACT scores.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your URI programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
