What PTE score do you need for the University of Southampton?

The page lists PTE Academic UKVI with the SELTs and PTE Academic (non-UKVI) with the centre-based tests, at the same scores. For UKVI tests it says the test must be on its approved list, taken in person at an approved centre unless listed as an online test, and awarded within two years of your course start date. PTE Academic Online is not among the online tests listed. Southampton says it verifies all scores with the test provider.

For comparison, band C asks IELTS for UKVI 6.5 with 6.0 in each skill and band H asks 7.0 with 7.0 in each skill, against PTE 67 (64) and 76 (76).

Southampton publishes separate English band requirements for its pre-sessional courses, linked from the same page, for students who are below their course band.

For a Student visa, gov.uk asks for English at CEFR B2 for study at degree level or above and B1 below degree level, and says a university can assess degree-level applicants' English itself and may ask for a different test (gov.uk).

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Southampton programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
