Accepted tests: what Sydney does and does not take

IELTS Academic is accepted, but IELTS Online is not. IELTS One Skill Retake is assessed together with the original IELTS Academic test, and the two-year validity runs from the original test date, not the retake date.

TOEFL iBT is accepted only in the TOEFL Australia version, reported on the 0–120 scale; TOEFL Home Edition is not accepted. PTE Academic is accepted. LanguageCert Academic (in person), Cambridge C1 Advanced and Cambridge C2 Proficiency are accepted, except for courses with external registration or accreditation requirements. Duolingo is not on the list, and PTE Academic Online is not mentioned by the University of Sydney.

If English is not your first language and your score falls short, the University's Centre for English Teaching runs English courses that can meet the requirement.

Requirements vary by course, and the University of Sydney can change them between intakes. Always confirm the score on your course page before you book a test. Your student visa has its own English rules, set by the Department of Home Affairs.
