Accepted tests, validity and the UNSW College route

UNSW accepts IELTS Academic, IELTS One Skill Retake and IELTS UKVI, but not the online version. TOEFL iBT is accepted including Home Edition (TOEFL for Australia version only); MyBest Scores are not, and the new TOEFL format is under review and not accepted until further notice. PTE Academic, Cambridge C1 Advanced (176, 169 each, for most programs) and C2 Proficiency (180, 180 each) are accepted, as is the ANU Access Program (70% overall). LanguageCert Academic (67) and the Michigan English Test (58) are accepted from Term 1, 2027. Duolingo is not listed.

Tests must be taken no more than two years before your intended start. For Term 1 the test must be dated on or after 1 January two years earlier; for Term 2, 1 May; for Term 3, 1 August. A One Skill Retake result is valid for two years from the original test date.

With a conditional offer, you can instead complete UNSW College's University English Entry Course (UEEC) at the score your program requires, no more than two years before you start.

Requirements vary by course, and UNSW can change them between intakes. Always confirm the score on your course page before you book a test. Your student visa has its own English rules, set by the Department of Home Affairs.
