University English requirements

What PTE score do you need for the University of Sydney?

PTE rules at Sydney

The requirements page lists PTE (Pearson Test of English) Academic as an accepted test and says all IELTS, PTE and LanguageCert requirements refer to the academic test, so non-academic tests are not accepted. All English tests must be no more than two years old at the date of course commencement. The page does not mention PTE Academic Online or PTE Core.

The concordance table warns that courses with external professional accreditation or registration rules may set different scores, and where they differ the higher requirement applies, so check the course page for nursing, teaching and similar degrees.

If your PTE falls short

Sydney lets you meet the requirement by completing a relevant English course at the University's Centre for English Teaching instead of retesting. Its entry points are on the Centre for English Teaching pages, not on the requirements page.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Sydney programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
