Test rules and how to send your score

The undergraduate page names "PTE Academic (including PTE Academic Online)", so the online test is accepted for undergraduate entry. It accepts scores from tests completed on or after 1 May 2025; older tests do not meet the requirement. It does not mention PTE Core. To send a PTE result, email your Score Report Code or Registration ID to myapplication@uwaterloo.ca. Tests not on the chart are not accepted.

The undergraduate IELTS level on the same page is 6.5 overall with 6.5 in writing and speaking and 6.0 in reading and listening, so both tests put the weight on writing and speaking. The graduate page says language scores are valid for two years from the test date and that all versions of the listed tests, including internet-based and at-home options, are accepted.

If you fall short

If you do not reach the required score, the undergraduate page points to the Bridge to Academic Success in English (BASE) programme. Waterloo's English for Academic Success (EFAS) course also counts, at 75% overall in level 400 with at least 70% in EFAS 420, 440 and 460. Graduate applicants can be admitted conditionally in some cases; the graduate page explains the conditions.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Waterloo programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
