York PTE scores by IELTS level

From York's postgraduate and undergraduate IELTS equivalency pages. Where both pages give the same IELTS level, the PTE scores match, except at the top band: the undergraduate page asks 67 for IELTS 7.0 in each component, while the postgraduate page asks 75 for IELTS 7.5 with 7.0 in each.

Test rules at York

Both pages say all accepted test scores must come from one test, not several; the only exceptions named are IELTS One Skill Retake (and, for undergraduates, the Oxford ELLT Skill Retake). The pages label the test simply "PTE" and do not say whether PTE Academic Online is accepted or how long a score stays valid, so check those with admissions. No Pearson institution code is given.

For comparison, the most common masters level at York, IELTS 6.5 with 6.0 in each component, corresponds to PTE 60 with the split above, so speaking carries the highest PTE minimum at that level.

If your PTE score falls short

York's equivalency pages say that if you are applying for an on-campus pre-sessional English course and need a Student visa, you must take a UK government approved SELT, and only IELTS for UKVI (Academic), Trinity ISE or PTE Academic UKVI are accepted for pre-sessional entry.

For a Student visa, gov.uk asks for English at CEFR B2 for study at degree level or above and B1 below degree level, and says a university can assess degree-level applicants' English itself and may ask for a different test (gov.uk).

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your York programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
