What IELTS score does the University of Prince Edward Island require?

For graduate admission, any exam should have been written within the last two years; if not, UPEI asks you to take the test at least three months before the semester opens. An undergraduate validity period, and a position on IELTS One Skill Retake or IELTS Online, are not stated by UPEI.

Undergraduates are exempt after three years of full-time study in English in Canada or another country where English is a principal language as recognised by UPEI. Graduate applicants are exempt with a degree from a recognised institution taught in English, and UPEI may ask for proof. Its recognised countries and institutions list names Indian universities such as the IITs (all campuses), the Indian Institute of Science and Anna University, and says it is not exhaustive. UPEI adds that IRCC may still ask for test results in a study permit application.

Undergraduates below the minimum may be admitted conditionally, except in Nursing, Radiography, Education and Veterinary Medicine, and clear the condition by re-testing or through UPEI's part-time English Academic Preparation combined with credit courses. Graduate applicants at the conditional scores must send updated results by 1 April for summer, 1 August for fall or 1 December for winter before taking graduate courses.

UPEI's scores decide admission only. IRCC sets no minimum English score for a study permit; any language condition is written into your letter of acceptance (see IELTS for a Canada study permit). The Post-Graduation Work Permit is a separate test again. IRCC's PGWP eligibility page asks for CLB 7 in all four skills if you graduate with a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree, and CLB 7 too if you graduate from "any other university program", which must also be in an eligible field of study if you applied for your study permit on or after 1 November 2024. The lower CLB 5 applies only to college, polytechnic and other non-university programs. On IELTS General Training, CLB 7 is 6.0 in each skill (IRCC score table). The PGWP takes IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General or PTE Core, not IELTS Academic (see IELTS for the PGWP).
