What IELTS score do you need for UT Arlington?

Graduate applicants whose native language is not English submit TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo scores sent directly by the testing agency. The minimums are IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 4 (79 on the 120-point scale) and Duolingo 100. When TOEFL is taken, section scores of Writing 22, Speaking 21, Reading 20 and Listening 16 are preferred (4.5 Writing and 4 in the others on the new scale). Departments may prefer higher scores, and some programs require testing above the minimum.

The catalog says applicants who graduated from secondary or post-secondary schools in listed countries need not submit TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo results, and that list includes India. A bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree from a US-accredited institution also exempts you; other waivers need your Graduate Advisor's recommendation and the dean's approval. International first-year applicants need IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 4 (79) or Duolingo 100, rising to 105 for any engineering major. The same exempt-country list, which includes India, applies. Testing is also waived with SAT verbal 480 or ACT English 19, English Composition I and II with a C plus 24 more transferable US hours, an English-based IB, AP, American or British curriculum, or a US degree.
